Title: Story of Maidenhead
Description: Display of artifacts related to Maidenhead and surroundings, from the Stone Age to the modern times.
Our permanent “Story of Maidenhead” exhibition is being improved all the time and is supplemented by temporary exhibitions.
The exhibition allows you to explore Maidenhead’s history, which stretches from before the Romans to Vanwall racing cars, aeroplanes, Hammer Horror films and scandals at Cliveden.
Don’t miss the Roman skeleton, buried near Bray about 1600 years ago. Then decide if the town’s seal shows the head of a maiden or a French saint – historians can’t agree!
The town of Maidenhead grew up when the first bridge was built across the Thames in 1250 and became a Victorian boom town when the Great Western Railway opened.
