The iconic Bray Studios, which have just received planning consent for new sound stages and ancillary buildings, will be one of the locations for Amazon Studios’ new £700m Lord of the Rings series which begins shooting next year. Bovingdon Airfield near Berkhamstead will also be used. Bray Studios has 54,000 sq.ft of stages and a 183,000 sq.ft back lot with a huge open air stage. Photos below.

New studios are also planned at Marlow, Shinfield, Farnborough and Broxbourne (Herts). The exisdting studios at Shepperton are also being expanded. However it seems that the UK does not have enough film equipment or trained crew to supply this boom, created by the appetite for high-quality drama and films among subscribers to Amazon, Netflix, Disney and Apple.
